Where does time go?!
It seems impossible to believe that we’ve been doing this homeschooling gig for 6 weeks now! And we’re still alive!
More than alive!
I honestly cannot think of one negative so far! (maybe I’m just too tired to think!)
No major negatives anyway!
Lots of positives though!
A boy who is much, much happier in himself, still keen to learn, much more chatty to everyone.
Every single person who’s walked in our front door has remarked on this, unprompted! So much for lack of socialisation!! He’s WAAAAAAAAY more social now than he ever has been!
Yesterday he asked me what a Roman Catholic was (researching the Inklings!)… I couldn’t think of anything really helpful to suggest so I said “Why don’t you ring Grandad and ask him!” “Okay”, he said, and off he went! Well, must have been easily a half hour later they were still chatting and things were being learned! Probably things that wouldn’t have been learned in school! Well, it’s not every kid that has their own theologian on hand to explain things, is it?!
He even gets chatting with his sister and her friends when they come over!
In fact he chats with anyone he comes across! If the phone rings he runs to answer it for me! And it only gets handed over to me once a conversation has been had.
And this is the boy who would barely leave his room is anyone turned up, and pretty much avert his eyes downward if asked a question.
And people want me to send him to school for socialisation! Well, that day may come again… for now, though… he’s getting lots more socialisation of the healthy kind than he ever did in school!
So, in short… 6 weeks in… God is good as He always is… and we’re not just coping, we’re doing just fine! It isn’t perfect by any means, but it’s a whole lot better than it’s been in years, and that’s saying a lot!
Yep, we’re planting a tree… maybe we should have planted it a while back… but better now than never! And hopefully with nurture and care the tree will flourish and bear good fruit for a lifetime…
